It’s the challenge, the wanting to show what you have produced, to share with others, yes, to see if you have the best. It’s the learning experience. It’s how to improve, how to make the best better. It’s how to accept defeat; knowing that that is the way the judge sees it today and tomorrow may be different.
It’s seeing all the displays - the pens of livestock, the school exhibits, the many varieties of fruits and vegetables, the grain displays, flower shows and seeing all that the youth have accomplished. It’s seeing names on the exhibit tags and saying, "Oh, I know them", or in the antique display "remember Grandma had one just like that."

The fair is the time to see all the merchants’ displays and get all the literature and give-aways from them. It’s not a fair without free balloons or a new yardstick. It’s also the time to check and compare the new farm machinery, all the entertainment at different times and places, and, of course, there’s the horse races. No fair is complete without the races.
Nor forgetting the midway with all the thrill rides, the games of chance, the cotton candy, popcorn, cold drinks. Yes, and all the places to eat.
But, the greatest things about the fair is the people, not only those attending, but all the volunteer work that is done to make it the greatest fair, ever.
So, welcome to the Hancock County Fair Grounds and have a wonderful time. |
